This novel is about midway in the series featuring Roderick Allyne, or Handsome Allyne, as Nigel Bathgate has labeled him. Nigel stumbles into a cult ceremony and when murder arises, calls in Allyne to solve the mystery. Ther are plenty of red herrings, plenty of clues, and a decent plot to it all. Some of it is a give-away, some obscure, but it's all there, no cheating. Not like Dame Agatha or some other period mystery writers. I am collecting the series, and I am enjoying the reading. 4 stars, for the prose, plot and characters.
