By the time you get to the 5th Deathwish movie, if you take the time and brainsweat to consider the series in total; then Paul Kersey has completed his transformation from tragic to inspiring.
Hear me out here.
Charles Bronson's character loses the women he loves, his girlfriend, his family, girlfriend's daughter...in EVERY SINGLE MOVIE. Tired 80s cliche? Maybe...mysoginistic depiction of women reduced to character motivation and plot device? Arguably.
But look at the meta: Kersey never stops trying through all that. He never stops striving for happiness, no matter what he experiences. If that doesn't inspire you, i think you need to have a talk with yourself.
