This story made use of a count-down to awful destruction of a major US city; however, I found this device to be irritating before long. I listened to this book and found the professional reader was better than the story.
Some of the dialog was awful, not merely ludicrous; it showed plainly when someone was reading it. This book showed that it is difficult to maintain a sense of urgency when the main characters are romantically linked (an understatement) and Mac is teaching Emma to steer an expensive boat. The drama just wasn't there. In the background, the listener is supposed to remember that the world's future is in the hands of these two lovebirds. Sheesh!
DEATH ECHO is the 5th in a series of Elizabeth Lowell's St. Kilda series. Earlier, I?d read INNOCENT AS SIN and was spellbound by it; thus, I thought this would be another winner.
