This is ane excellent book for those interested in seeing what archaeology can tellus about the stories in the bible. As extensive archaelogical evidence does not support the Exodus, the conquest of Canan or the great building of Solomon o the conquests of David, one is left to wonder what of the Bible stories in the Old Testament is true. Were David & Solomon really people. From the evidence and stories, it appears that David was a bandit leader of nomadic shepherd type of a band who did support Jewish settlements, but on a small scale compared to the Biblical presentation. It appears that most Phoophets are not prophets at all and the data attributed to the various prophets of the Old Testament were written after the occurrance of the condition, thus the phrophcies were written trying to indicate a prophet receiving the word of God before the occurrance of the situation, but is is all made up. Mankind has a need to perecive something more than he is, whether we call it supernatural or God. God is a real entity, but no religion or man knows waht God is or how to understand God's interatction with manking. God may interact with mankind and does in ways that most of do not comprehend. The Biblical story is a type of guidance system for development of mankind's potentially best traits but we are to realize at the same time, that we are all weak and allow our desires to over rule our soul. The history of the Jews as presented in the Bible shows that no one is perfect but by becoming a people who belive in One God and following , worshiping and being faithful to that One God, people can advance and become a nation of people who may hve been built from peoples without any home or continuity of their group. The archaelogical evidence is presented very straightforward and the writers have presented an excellent depiction of the times and possible developments in history that would be supported by these finds. This book presents what history is backed by archaelogical studies and what historical data in the Bible must have been written many years after the occurrances and by different Kings in the Israel and Judea lines.
