This book is also published in the UK as "Hons and Rebels". Jessica Mitford was a member of the famous Mitford family. Two sisters became Nazi sympathizers, one became a writer, and Jessica joined the Communist Party. She moved to the US with her husband (a Spanish civil-war veteran on the Republican side) at the onset of WWII. Published in 1960, the book covers her early life in the UK, her marriage and split with her family, and her life in the US as a communist-party activist. For those interested in this era, this is one of the better memoirs. Her writing style is relaxed and unlabored; she is not preachy or dogmatic altho certainly committed. To me the book was quite enjoyable and illuminating. Recommended.
