In fact, Dex seems to lead a quiet, normal life bordering on the mundane. Despite the fact that he can't stand the sight of blood, he works as a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police. But Dexter also has a secret hobby: he is an accomplished serial killer. So far, he's killed 36 people and has never been caught because he knows exactly how to hide the evidence. And while that may lead some people to assume he's not such a nice guy - he tempers his insatiable hunger for brutality by only killing the bad guys. However, Dexter's well-organised life is suddenly disrupted when a second, much more visible serial killer appears in Miami. Initially intrigued that the other killer seems to favour a style similar to his own, Dexter soon realises that the mysterious new arrival is not simply invading his turf but offering him a direct invitation to 'come out and play'...DARKLY DREAMING DEXTER is a fresh, fast, funny thriller from a brilliant new voice, Jeff Lindsay.

The kindest thing I can say about Mr. Lindsay?s Dexter book is that he has produced?through the effort of an offshore publishing house, and absent required editing?an author?s equivalent of the curate?s egg.

You won't be able to put this one down.
He seems like such a nice guy,... like such a normal guy... someone you think you'd like to have as a friend.... until you find out that he has another friend, a dark passenger, whom you do not want to get mad... This book is very gripping and intelligent. The characters are very believable. Dexter is extremely charismatic and you can't help but to like him, despite his flaws. The book has a perfect blend of mystery and comedy. It is the basis of a Shotime hit series "Dexter". A must read that is impossible to put down until the very end... and even then you want more.
