Strong and Stronger
This is vintage Christine. Natalya comes to us in an earlier novel and she is portrayed as a nomadic gypsy like gifted woman. She is drawn to the Carpathian Mountains and she doesn't understand why. She has come to terms with who and what she is and is determined to continue to live as she has since she lost her family.
In strolls Vik, as she calls him. He longs for a woman to sooth his brow after battle, cook and clean and mainly be a pleasant albeit bland accoutroument to his life.
They meet. They Clash. Natalya is female strenghth and guts and he has no idea what to with her. She also has a secret that changes everything. This is written so well. It felt like I was watching a tennis match between the two best players in the world. Love doesn't always come in the form we expect it too.
Give yourself the treat of reading this book.

Two halves of the same whole
I absolutely love the idea of everyone having a soul mate. It makes the universe seem less lonely and gives hope to those who believe. Christine Feehans' Dark series is just that, hope. In Dark Demon, Vikirnoff meets his life mate Natalya. Their souls call out to one another. She is not what he expected or even wanted. Somehow they must come to terms with their differences. Vikirnoff is at the edge of darkness, barely hanging on, when he takes the task to warn Natalya that she has been targeted by vampires. Natalya is a hunter in her own right. Though she doesn't have the knowledge of how to destroy a vampire, she continues to fight. Vikirnoff must set aside his overwhelming protective instincts and have faith in his life mate. Natalya must uncerstand that he can not help the way he is. Both have been alone far to long and have no idea how to show the emotions that bombard them. We also see more of Mikhails' power and just why the Dubrinsky and Daratrazanoff alliance is so important to the Carpathian race. Each book in the Dark series is better than the one before. A truly thrilling fantasy that shows us the dangers of condemning an entire race by the worst example of that race.

Farfetched, Unlikeable, and Lagging Read
When I think of this book, the first thing I wonder is why I ever bothered reading it in its entirety. It's too long, too boring, too farfetched, and is filled with unlikeable characters! The protagonist is the opposite of sympathetic, as is her mate, and the idea of two people meeting for the first time, mating (somewhat unintentionally) and then living happily ever after by the end of the novel is rediculous, even for the often bizarre, paranormal romance genre. I was mostly surprised at how horrible this novel was because I have read and enjoyed other Christine Feehan novels (in the -- Game series). This was my first (and last) Carpathian/ Dark -- novel.
