They have occupations, families and homes, They work, eat, love die - in short, have all the faults and virtues of your own family or your neighbour's. The land has a look and feel to it. There are particular kinds of birds singing in the trees. Particular flowers and crops growing in the soil. Understanding these people, their turbulent times and the trials and pleasures of their lives, the relationships and differences between their times and ours becomes increasingly clear, as does the profound significance of belief and faith, in any historical period.
