When the coup d'???etat occurred in 1952, Pep???in gave himself up to the fight against the dictatorship, which robbed him of his adolescence. When the revolution triumphed, he trusted that the country would develop peacefully and democratically, but the new regime takes an authoritarian and repressive course. He decides to leave and only succeeds after seven years. In his long exile, he studies, teaches and meditates on the successes and errors committed. Earn a Ph.D. in food and resource economics from the University of Florida (UF) in 1977, becoming a member of its faculty. In 1999 he received the "National Honor Award for Superior Service", the highest award conferred by the United States Department of Agriculture to an agricultural researcher. After a productive academic career, which included more than 300 publications, fifty presentations at national and foreign events, numerous scholarships, awards and recognitions, he retired in 2004, receiving the title of Professor Emeritus. He spent the last days of his life in Wellington, Florida, with his wife, children and grandchildren. He finished this work at the end of 2020. He died a victim of the coronavirus on January 22, 2021. Before his death he wrote this book of his memoirs that he describes as "a frantic effort to capture the past that he wants the present not to erase." By publishing it we achieve that purpose and thus many have the opportunity to read it and thus understand a little more the unhappiness of the Cuban people subjected to the regime of the Castro brothers that brought about the greatest disaster in the history of Cuba and its dire consequences for many other countries"--
