In memoriam
Joseph Hansen told stories. And told them well. A master of dialogue, in "The Cutbank Path" he continued the chronicles of the sturdy, yet vulnerable, Nathan Reed. Mr. Hansen did not allow his protagonist to succumb to the homophobic pressures of his times but instead imbued Nathan with a staunch morality that was direct argument against the denigration of the life of a man loving a man.
Other authors have given us views of the everyday lives of gay men, but Mr. Hansen was one of the few who showed us by example how to overcome fear and live a loving existence.
it's a profound sadness to me that i will never know where Mr. Hansen was going to take Nathan.
