This book is sort of a novelty. It is specially bound to allow the book itself to be used in a trick. Without the video, some of the tricks in this book will not work. On the other hand, sophistication of our dear friends as regards VCRs has increased significantly since this book was published, so several of them would not work anyway. The book includes script of several Penn and Teller shows (mix of movies/TV and their Vegas show), but the type is on gray paper and very small, so I would almost guarantee a headache to anyone trying to read it. If you're a Penn & Teller fan, I would recommend their "Penn and Teller's How to Play with Your Food" over "Cruel Tricks for Dear Friends". If I had realized how dependent this book was on the video, I might not have purchased it. Perhaps you can find the video to go with it.

Not too good
If you want a Penn & Teller book, buy How to Play with Your Food or How to Play in Traffic. Those books are great. This book is far less than great.
