The idiots seem to think that Floridy s a cure-all fur empty pockets, worn-out lungs, n dilapidated characters. Now, I dont want no folks to bleve them condemned liars, who go round the country with orange-groves in their pockets, preaching up that Floridys the poor man s paradise. Joe Carew was an excellent specimen of the wide-awake, go-ahead Florida cracker, thin almost to gauntness, sandy of hair and beard, with splendid eyes, a broad forehead, a sharp nose, a vide but well-shaped mouth, under which gleamed teeth even as a string of pearls, a bronze-red moustache, and a smile that was charming for the expression of utter guileless-ness it gave to his otherwise shrewd, sedate countenance.
