Tony Hillerman is a great storyteller. His books of fiction are all fast reads evoking a strong sense of place and of the Navajo people.

a crystal gazer finds Butch Cassidy
In this story we know who the murderer is right from the beginning. Of course, we are sure the poor old indian didn't do it, and Chee and Leaphorn will prove him innocent before the story is finished. Ashie Pinto, the old Navajo indian, accused of the murder, won't talk. All he will say is he is ashamed. Did I mention that the person murdered is a Tribal police officer by the name of Delbert Nez, who is Jim Chee's best friend? Before the story is finished, there are three more murders, and Lt Leaphorn is going to discover a new, interesting woman by the name of Louisa Bourebonette PH.D.. Unlike all the other Hillerman books that I have read, the author leaves some things unanswered--not characteristic of Hillerman. I would have liked to have known how the car fire got started that burned officerer Chee so badly. But, other than that, this book, like all of his books is full of twists and turns to keep you guessing. Does the crystal gazer find Butch Cassidy, and is it the Butch Cassidy we know? And, why is he looking for his bones Find out.
