Seller's Description:
Very Good in Very Good, but Torn DJ. Blue hard paper boards with black lettering and graphic along the spine and a black graphic on the front board. FIRST EDITION. "A son's biography of a famous father the story of Billy Bishop". Illustrated. DJ has five tears to one-half inch. 211 pages which includes an index.
This is a biography of Billy Bishop, Canada's leading air ace of WW1, written by his son W.A. Bishop, a proud son, and deservingly so. By his own admission, Bishop never learned to land a plane very well, in fact, he didn't take off very well either. The thing he did well was to shot down enemy planes, 72 of them, to become the leading allied pilot. Colonel Eddie Rickenbacker, America's leading Ace, said of Billy Bishop,"I think he's the only man I have ever met who was incapable of fear". Bishops career did not end with the close of WW!. In 1940 he became director of recruiting for the Royal Canadian Air Force where he trained flyers for the new war with Germany, WW2. At the invitation of the Brithish Air Ministry he went to England for a meeting on the Commonwealth air training plan. The book takes you clear to Bishop's death. The book has a wonderful index , many pages of pictures, and also lists all of Bishops kills. A must read book if you are into WW1 history of flying like I am.
