R. Nisbet Bain was a C19 historian with special expertise who worked at the British Museum. He produced and translated a fascinating tale collection from the Ruthenian dialect/language, whose tales have clear connections to the Russian and European traditions.
The modern publisher of this volume, however, has made a shoddy book from Bain's painstaking work: the print is v. small; bold face is used for sub-sections of a story, not for titles; tales can start low down on a page; spacing is inconsistent; everything is cramped and crowded. Long out of copyright, there is no indication of the date of publication, nor does the publisher even acknowledge his/her name plainly, perhaps they are properly ashamed of their book production - as they should be.
