A writer as talented as Carol Finch should know better! This book missed the reality test; Alexa Quinn acted more like a randy, 1960's emancipated female, rather than a genteel socialite (which she was). I didn't have a problem with her craving adventure; I had a problem with Alexa being the aggressor -- she seduced our hero, Wyatt Cooper, repeatedly. Unless the woman earned her living in this way, a woman just wouldn't act as Alexa did.
The story has a mystery and a wonderfully-evil villain. Alexa's father is a government official who must decide which of 3 ranchers will get a valuable contract. Elliot Webster has had the contract for the last couple of years but Mr. Quinn is uneasy about awarding it again without more info about smooth-talking Elliot.
Alexa suggests hiring a detective to find out more about Webster. She wheedles until she gets to go to Questa Springs to hire the detective and keep an eye on things. Alexa has no interest in idly sitting by and watching the action.
The pacing is very good; things move along quickly. Except for the glaring error in Alexa's sexual behavior, I thought it was an interesting book that kept me reading till the end.
