Jan Morris' telling of her own transition experience from man to woman in early /mid-20th Century UK is poignant and compelling. Far from the tone most often associated with trans stories today, this is the story of a gentle person struggling with the same issues as contemporary trans, but in a far less informed world. Deeply touching.

Different Perspective
I have read about 6 books this past year that are transitioning autobiographies and this must be the most unique.
Jan Morris represents a British perspective by someone well traveled and worldly. Her experiences are not those common to Americans because of her culture, education, military service, and the time she experienced transitioning. Her devotion to her family and friends is inspiring. A good read that is funny and touching at the same time.
