Its relations to the other formations of the Mississippian series will be considered, as well as its general physical characters, its geographic distribution, and its possible utilization as a building stone. No attempt will be made to describe in detail the fauna as it occurs in Illinois, but as complete lists of species as can be made at the present time, will be given in an appendix, for the various localities from which fossils have been collected.
