Dorothy Parker's quips and light verse have become part of the American literary landscape, but, as this new collection of her complete short stories demonstrates, Parker's talents extended far beyond brash one-liners and clever rhymes. Many of the stories, originally written for magazines, have never been collected before.

Dorothy Parker was a women way ahead of her time. Her independence, her sense of fair play, her disdain of the 'upper class', her belief in equality and her fun sense of humor about morbid things. Dark humor and 'snarkiness' that just makes me laugh. And a woman who wasn't afraid of her sexuality or to be a strong woman who while wants a man, is very aware of who they really are. An amazing woman and my literary hero. While i treasure her poetry more than her stories, I 'get' what she was trying to bring to the world's attention in her stories and admire her bravery of speaking out at the very people she associated with. Every good poet is a bit morose and depressed but she still had a sense of humor about it. Her collected works are treasures.

Period piece
You do sort of have to be in the mood for Dorothy Parker. Her humor is so deeply unhappy, and yet these classics still deliver.
