A K Mitchell's novel is unusual in its premise: two gay men who can express their sexual needs abundantly, but who, because of their traumatic childhoods, talk negative-speak with each other. Everything seems to be a cause for an argument--except the sex. Still, that's not a bad premise. People quite often express themselves indirectly, by various kinds of projection, and often are talking about the pain they have felt by indirection, not facing it. Do Joey and Aaron go at each other too steadily, is the plot a bit unlikely? Yes, but somehow the multiple levels and the characterizations are very plausible and satisfying. We're lucky to have writing like this. And if you like reading about how two guys can express themselves with anal sex better than they can with words, this novel definitely provides lots of evidence.
