Stevie Smith may yet become my ideal of the "anti-obscure" poet--a rare quality for a poet to have, anymore. (I consider Jorie Graham Stevie Smith's opposite: obscure as obscure can be.)
Smith may sometimes seem flat and prosaic (not a lot of rythmic energy), but the cumulative effect of the poem will be profound. Her poems make me think of the old saying "Still waters run deep."
Buy this book or her "Selected Poems"; you won't be disappointed.
