Art Trash
Dennis Cooper, in this, as in his other books, has found a way to make trash out of art and art out of trash. This is certain to rate high with lovers of the avant-garde who mistake punk for insight. If you are one of the literati who recommend this book highly, I promise you it is going to seem merely nasty in thirty years. Maybe less! If you are a reader who threw this book across the room and then threw it away, I want to know you--you're a friend. We do not have to be shocked and manipulated in order to learn the central verities and values of life. But maybe we need an enfant terrible like Dennis Cooper now and then so that we can appreciate good, insightful writing from authors other than him. Sometimes being a loser is a noble thing. Dennis Cooper proves that being a loser can be nothing more or less than being a loser.
