Excerpt from Climbing and Exploration in the Karakoram-Himalayas The chief results of my work are the map and the present volume. How much of the former covers new ground or modifies in important respects the representation of physical features may be easily perceived by comparing it with the corresponding sheets of the Indian atlas, which are readily accessible. The two sheets of my map are too large for incorporation in the ordinary edition of this work, but they are issued with the Edition de luxe. The expense of engraving this map, as well as that of developing my many photographs, was borne by the Royal Geographical Society. It is scarcely necessary to add that my survey does not pretend to be more than a sketch survey. It was made under all the disadvantages of rapid travelling and in almost continuous bad weather.
