Seller's Description:
Cover Art by David Ireland. Fine. No Dust Jacket As Issued. No Flaws or Blemishes but minimal shelf handling; The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, age-toning is the only flaw to note. Appears unread; no spine crease. The City of Wonder, " a lost-race adventure novel, is set in the mysterious city of Kir-Asa, located in Southeast Asia. Written by Charles Henry Cannell under the pseudonym Evelyn Vivian, Cannell was a British editor and author known for his fantasy, supernatural, and detective novels. "The City of Wonder" is among his most acclaimed works. Kir-Asa represents the type of unspoiled, bucolic paradise that fascinated many writers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The notion that the inhabitants of such places might desire the fruits of civilization was rarely considered. However, despite its idyllic appearance, Kir-Asa has its flaws—chiefly its extreme stability, which borders on stagnation. One of the most striking aspects of the novel is its monsters. These creatures, not quite human but sharing a distant ancestry with humans, occupy a strange place between life and death, neither fully alive nor fully ghostly, adding a haunting dimension to the story.
