Be the temporary and passing divisions ofthe day what they may, there can be none so lost to what is due to themselves, and to their posterity, as not to be impressed with at: anxious solicitude to provide for the best interests, and enduring happi ness, ofthe community. I entreat you to take into your deliberate conside ration what I shall submit, and to direct me, as your servant, in the man ner you may deem most advisable. Let us all come together in counselr with that grave, reflecting, candid, and patriotic spirit which befits the momentous issue'that presents itself. None can be more deeply impress ed than I feel myself to be with the importance and delicacy of the econ sion; and none, I am'very conscious, can be more impartial and unpreju diced in the temper with which itis approached. Let the bespeak a simi lar spirit on the part ofall; for the question I present is a question for the country - for all interests, for all classes. I stand prepared to act as you shall order.
