The work, however, went forward: the committee met and liberated, for several weeks; and, Cranmer having un successfully endeavoured to shake the opinions of Bonner and the other dissen ticnts (burnet, ii. Rec. 136 a form of communion was at length produced, which seemed intended to meet the prejudices, and conciliate the approbation, ofbotb parties. It left the mass unaltered, to be recited, as usual, m Latin, to the end of the riest's communion. It then added the E11 lish carbonation, Dearly W in the Lord, with the Invitation, the Geneva Con and Sentences of Scripture, as they stand in the present liturgy; and fins l omitting the Preface, passed tothe pra er, We do notpmme, andordemdythedistri bution of the sacrament, un er both kinds, and with the form which is still preserved. The sacramental brmd was to he such as heretofore had been scene. Tomed: and the benefit of auricular confession was to be inculcated on all, who were about to approach the holy table.
