With their daughter in Peru with the Peace Corps, the Kranks believe it just isn't worth it; thus, no presents, Christmas trees, or decorations of any kind will adorn their house to the great consternation of their neighbor Vic (Dan Aykroyd). Just as it looks like Christmas will be successfully skipped, Blair (Julie Gonzalo) throws a major kink into her plans when she suddenly has a change of heart and announces she'll be coming home for Christmas after all. The film ran into troubles early on in production when Ben Affleck's similar sounding bomb Surviving Christmas won the race to the theaters, forcing the filmmakers to depart from the book title in favor of the catchy Kranks one. This movie is the funniest Christmas movie. It's a fresh change from the regular Santa and Christmas magic themes but still leaves you aaahhh at the end. Tim Allen is great and Jamie Lee Curtis is terrific as an uptight suburban Mom.

The Best Christmas Movie!
Christmas with the Kranks! I loved the movie and the book. It was an enjoyable movie at Christmas time I'll never forget. Luther Krank comes up with an idea when he is shopping for Nora at a grocery store and sees a travel advertisement about taking a Caribbean Cruise. He adds up what he and Nora spent last year for Christmas and it was $6,000 dollars. At dinner, he tells Nora of his plan to skip Christmas and go on a Caribbean Cruise. She is skeptical at first but likes the idea that they will save money because the cruise is around $3,000.00 At work the next day, Luther writes letters to his co-workers letting them know the Kranks will be taking a cruise and skipping Christmas and not buying gifts or attending the Company Christmas Party. His co-workers thinks that Luther is a scrooge. Nora is shopping downtown and looks at Christmas Cards the employee that knows Nora runs out of the store to talk to her regarding the Christmas Cards she buys every year from that store. Nora tries to ignore him but he catches her before she could avoid him. He tries to persuade her to buy her Christmas Cards. Nora is starting to feel bad about skipping Christmas. The Christmas Cards were special to her because she picked out her own special Christmas Cards every year. At lunch, Nora tells her friends that Luther and her are skipping Christmas and going on a Caribbean Cruise. Her friends can't believe what they are hearing from her. Her friends can't wait to go the""Kranks Christmas Eve Party"". The employee from the card shop over hears Nora and states she is not buying Christmas Cards either. Nora starts feeling guilty about skipping Christmas again. Luther does not buy a Christmas tree from the cub scouts and a calender from the local police. The plot thickens and the story line gets more exciting! The neighbors are hilarous! This is a must see movie!
