A thorough, academic study which is well researched on a topic that has hitherto scarcely been examined by the academic world. Boswell's detailed scholarship throws quite a bit of light into the 'medieval closet'.
While not exactly 'light' reading, it is not intellectually overwehlming for the non-academic or anyone with an in interest in gay history. A pioneer and landmark study of the gay past.

Finding what you're looking for
The ceremonies author Boswell describes can be described as "brother making" not "sexual-partner making."
His theory, finding what he sincerely wanted to find, has been debunked by both historians
