None. Good Only. The first edition of this biography regarding the German poet and moral philosopher, Christian Furchtegott Gellert. Written by Johann Andreas Cramer, an associate of Gellert. Illustrated, with a folding frontispiece of Gellert's grave monument in St John, Leipzig and a folding plate list of his donors and patrons preceding the half-title. Prior owner's stamp to the title page, A StB. Loosely inserted is several leaves of notes, written in copperplate and in German. Prior owner's notes to the recto and verso of front endpaper. Christian Furchtegott Gellert was a notable figure during the Enlightenment. Contemporaneously, his writings were one of the most widely read. He was a professor of poetry for many years in Leipzig. He met the author of this memoir, Johann Andreas Cramer, during his studies. Cramer was a German theologian during the Enlightenment era. This work is regarded as the first biography of Gellert, who was such a notable figure in German culture and literature in the eighteenth century. In a full calf binding. Externally, rubbed to the boards and spine. Crack to the spine. Small loss to the front board. Front hinge and joint are weak and may detach with further handling.
