Katahdin is the tallest mountain in Maine, which the native Americans knew to be occupied by Pamona, a sometimes "evil" spirit. Dudley weaves fanciful tells of his years living and working on and in the shadows of Katahdin. He ultimately befriends Pamona, a creature partly moose, partly eagle, and partly other critters. Dudley and Pamona keep each other company, help each other in times of need, and come to appreciate each others camaraderie. Each short story is one chapter and would make fine reading by a grandparent to a grandchild, or light reading for those who simply love reading about Katahdin, "the greatest mountain," and the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail.
