Through this lovable and curious, little snail and his adventures, this book is a great gateway to engage with young children about important topics they may be facing like bullying, berevement, speaking up, and mental health issues, to name a few. Due to his curiosity and quest for knowledge, Charlie is a great metaphor for young children to relate to at the beginning of their educational journey or those adjusting from Primary School to 'Big' school.Discover where the journey begins for this lovable, lonely, and curious snail as he travels to strange and distant lands to find answers to all the questions that trouble him. A word from the author: Mental Health back in 1986, when I was only 16 years of age, when I first wrote this story, wasn't really as big a topic as it is today. I was grappling with overcoming sexual abuse, bullying, religious beliefs, and sexual identity. I never thought I'd live this long, I didn't have many close friends, and suicide was an exit option I contemplated often. I thought I was experiencing this all alone, and was scared to ask why or discover what to do about it. It is only now that I realize how autobiographical this story is, and it humbles me. When I wrote this story 33 years ago, I had no idea it would have such mass appeal, and people would relate to it so well, as they are today. However, it saddens me somewhat that the issues I had to deal with alone still perpetuate all this time later. Although I am not a rich man financially, I am extremely wealthy in life experiences - some good, some very, very bad - but luckily through this book I am able to give something back to try and help and change the world we live in for the better. If this book can help just ONE child have the confidence to stand up and ask, "Why?" and find a voice, all my suffering will have had purpose and meaning. I humbly thank you for your support. Proceeds from the sale of this book series go to Charlie's Causes, the charitable Social Enterprise I co-founded this year.
