Seller's Description:
4to. Stiff brown pictorial wrappers. 74pp. Numerous illustrations. Fine. A tight, pristine first edition of this supplement to this Lincoln trio's popular 1984 study "The Lincoln Image: Abraham Lincoln and the Popular Print." Tipped in at front is a choice autograph addition: A Typed Note Signed from Neely, 1p, 8¼" X 11", Amherst, MA, 8 March 1984. Addressed to "Ralph" (Ralph G. Newman, 1912-98, founder of Chicago's noted Abraham Lincoln Book Shop). Near fine. On his personal letterhead, the Pulitzer Prize-winning historian (born 1944) discusses invitations for some cryptic event, closing with a reference to the just-published "Lincoln Image": "My new Lincoln book just arrived--the first copy off the presses. It looks very nice." Signed simply "Steve" in blue ballpoint.
