During the second half of the 19th century the firm had grown from a small grocery operation into a major business with extensive facilities in Yokohama, Kobe, Shanghai, Formosa, Calcutta, and Colombo. It was a prosperous company. In 1916 the American International Corporation took over a majority interest in the company, and George H. Macy retired from business. When he died in January 1918, the American International Company took over the remaining Macy family interest in the company. Many of the present day descendants of George Macy have wondered what happened to the company. Here is all we know. . . .
