Read this book before I went on a cruise, and it did help with the background of the area. Typical Michener style, slow and then fast moving, followed by slow, however it is entertaining, I learned about 'Cricket,' and still don't understand it. I did enjoy the Mayan part, as I went to Tulum on my cruise.
