This is another one of those books about the Black experience in America written by someone not sensitive to that experience at all. If this author was he would never refer to John C. Calhoun as a great man, and he would never refer to a speech as being eloquent when it was made in defense of slavery. Shame on this writer for such insensitivity to the ugliness of slavery and what appears to be respect for a man, whom to Blacks was a monster.
