This book is a 'calendar' ie a list in chronological order of digests or abstracts of probate and administration acts and of wills registered in the Consistory Court of the Bishops of Hereford between 1407 and 1550. The court had jurisdiction over a range of matters deriving from the obligations of conscience and faith of persons in the diocese. The court's greatest single area of jurisdiction however related to the probate of testaments and wills involving property held in that diocese. However, if the deceased held property in more than one diocese the case was dealt with in the superior Prerogative Courts of York or Canterbury. Unless a deceased person had held property in more than one diocese, the probate of his will and any grant of administration of his estate fell within the purview of this court. This book is a reprint of a book first printed in 2009. It includes an Introduction describing the records and a map of the diocese and deaneries and facsimiles of four pages. There is hardback too.
