A Towering Achievement This book, and the entire By The Hands of Men series, is an incredible achievement by a talented author. It is, by turns, a fascinating look at the early twentieth century, a riveting adventure, an insightful and biting political commentary, and a sweeping romance. The characters are wonderfully and deeply drawn, and I found myself emotionally engaged and borne along by the same set of awful circumstances they faced throughout these wonderful books. This series should be required reading in every high school. I envy those just starting out reading this series... you're in for a rare treat! -- Amazon Reviewer, 5 stars You think that Charlotte is safe and then... I rushed through reading book 3 because I wanted to know what happened to Charlotte in book 4. It was worth the wait. The trials and tribulations of being Russian during the Bolshevik Revolution reached her all the way to Europe. There were some people glad to know she was alive, but Robert doesn't know, yet. What will she do? Where will she go? You will have to read this book to find out. Now I am so glad I can start book 5. The anticipation is killing me. Please read the books in order or you will not understand the flow of it. It is definitely worth getting all six books at once because you will not want to put any of them down . -- Amazon Reviewer, 5 stars She saved her friends from a life of imprisonment and escaped to the safety of England, but the shadow of modern fanaticism looms over Britain and the continent. What future awaits Charlotte when murderous madness stalks Europe? After escaping her enslavement by the Bolsheviks, Charlotte Braninov begins to build a new life in London. She hoped to leave the insanity of Russia behind with the help of her family of refugees, but a dear friend and benefactor goes missing in France. Journeying to post-war Paris, she once more works as a nurse, confronting disease and danger. With communist zealots prowling Europe, will peace forever elude Charlotte? The Blind Machinery of the World is the fourth volume of the By the Hands of Men series. Historical fiction by Roy M. Griffis, this epic sweeps across four continents in a gripping tale of fate, loss, redemption, and love. More excitement ! I started and finished this book today. Like previous books, this was difficult to put down. I worked in the medical field for over forty years and found the character, Charlotte, very intriguing. This author is able to make you feel as though you are witnessing each scene. I would highly recommend this series to any historical novel reader. -- Amazon Reviewer, 5 stars
