The Festschrift refers to the diverse media landscape that confronted Wolfgang Schmitz, both as director of the University and City Library of Cologne, and as chairman of numerous bibliophile societies. Its coverage ranges from early printed books of the 15th century through to today's digital media and their distribution, reception, and their social influence.
