Seller's Description:
New. 8vo. Henry Brougham was born into a Cumbrian family in 1778. A barrister, he entered Parliament as Whig M.P. in 1810. After standing for open election at Liverpool, and then on three occasions in Westmorland, he finally succeeded at York in 1830. Brougham's first speech was on the slave trade and won him immediately a dominant position in Parliament. This was the beginning of a lifetime's work on political, social and legal reforms.
