History of Wales 1228-1283 as told by a retainer and friend of Llewelyn the Great, from before to after the conquest by Edward I of England. Excellent and accurate and absorbing. All this book lacks is a detailed atlas of Wales and England, so to follow the details of place names I had a big one open beside me. I could not put the book down each of the 3 times I have read it in 5 years. Invaluable before a trip to Wales. Edith Pargeter as Ellis Peters wrote the excellent and acclaimed Brother Cadfael mysteries about Shrewsbury England on the border of Wales in medieval times.
