This book is a captivating and relational story of one man's journey, going from a "broken soldier" to a compassionate, redeemed combat veteran and committed follower of Jesus. It contains many first-hand accounts of combat and situations that at times seemed insurmountable. More importantly this book contains healing messages based on God's Word. James Brewer relates personal experiences in combat and the cold reception of his home coming to what many combat veterans might be feeling. Recently we see the soldiers returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan, receiving a hero's welcome from their communities. These events have reopened wounds that Korea and Vietnam vets have suffered. Their resentment is not for the returning combat veterans; it is remembering the public outcries of yester-year when returning vets were labeled "baby killers" and worse. Many of today's returning vets may benefit from the experiences of a combat vet and former cynic and the healing process he went through.
