This is a work I wish I'd read long ago. I kept picking it up and putting it down because I thought it was about using drugs to attain the shamanic experience, which for me is unnecessary, but after reading it found it was so informative as to the overall state of shamanic practice both indigenous and new age in contemporary human society it made me see that there is a much larger significant spectrum of shamanic experience to be had. Altogether a great read as well, with Mr. Pinchbeck's writing style being that of an erudite traveler between continents and between worlds.

Breaking Open the Head
It is a great book with a lot of expierence mapped out with a little bit of science. This book is a really interesting point of view into our psychy with the help of psychadelics. Pinchbeck gives a great insight on many ways of life, and brings to life some interesting philosophy.

Wisely Crafted
This is a wonderful introduction into psychedelic shamanism. Daniel has a great style of writing that is inquisitive and accurate. He dives into the Iboga ceremonies done by the Bwiti cults of Africa, examines the ayahuasca preparations of the South American shamans, offers insights into psilocybin, LSD, etc.
I definitely would recommend this book to anyone exploring the inner nuances who is also interested in the entheogenic aspect of that journey.
