Sin is of the devil. He uses it as a weapon to destabilize the believer and break his or her fellowship with the Father-God; he uses it as a tool to expand his kingdom of darkness, whereupon he can spread sickness and pain, fear and disillusionment, lack and despondency and eventually misery and death. The cunningness of the devil is unbeknown to many believers who have fallen victim to his schemes, and many have ended up as his slaves, serving the master of all transgressions and disobedience. The havoc caused by sin in the lives of believers is at a higher level today than at any other time in Christian history. The fraternizing of many a believer with sin is even more surprising. Sin has left in its wake devastation of untold magnitude in the church and has continued to spread its stinging tentacles into the very veins and ligaments of Christ's earthly body. It has not only made its home in the pews but has now taken over pulpits directing songs and sermons. Sons and daughters of God have become powerless and hopeless in the face of sin's seduction and constant enticement. The loud silence and apparent hopelessness in regard to sin is part of the devil's deception. He wants you and me to take sin as normal. Most pastors today are reluctant to speak against sin for fear of losing their church members, not realizing that they have already lost them to sin and to Satan, "having been taken captive by him to do his will" (2 Timothy 2:26); and having been unwittingly enlisted into Satan's payroll to allow sin to operate unhindered. We have thus redefined sin and called it weakness. The message of holiness and purity has been set aside, and the prophecy is fulfilled that says, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables." This book is written with you in mind. If you are born-again, this book will help you identify Satan's schemes and devices that he employs to bring believers into his well of sin, so that they may drink and be full with his filth. It will help you be sober, watchful and alert 'in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation' (Philippians 2:15) that you may resist his temptations. Are you an unbeliever seeking God? This book will help you know that Jesus has already paid the price for your sins and that you can now accept God's invitation to join His family; and that God is waiting for you with open arms to welcome you into the household of saints.
