Who would control the vast grassland empire that once belonged to Dan Brandon? That was the question and that was the thing which sparked the war to see who would get it. When Brandon died he left behind a son too cowardly and weak to defend the ranch, and a widow who desperately needed help if it was to be saved. Into this scenario comes Leach Carlin, a loner, a man with little or no pity in him; but that might be change by a woman, if Dallas Renfro could believe what Carlin told her; but could she? This L P Holmes book written in 1953 goes right to the heart of what a good western should be, and Mr. Holmes wrote a lot of good westerns which any one who loves the genre should love as well. Perhaps they are a little "traditional" for some, but they are what I like the best. I think anyone should like this one.
