Bertrand has played many kinds of music over the years, but here, she sounds like a Brahms specialist to the manner born. Bertrand and Amoyel are all about great Brahms tunes rather than necessarily musical complexity, and they do well to essay a group of seven song transcriptions for cello and piano as an entr'acte (six of them are designated Liebeslieder, or love songs, but they are just Brahms love songs from various sources, not Liebeslieder Waltzes). The two cello sonatas are given distinctive treatments. Especially hypnotic is the Cello Sonata No. 1 in E minor, Op. 38, where Bertrand is gentle and lyrical.
