Denver cop Cliff Janeway probably knows as much about books as he does about crime - he knows how easy it is to hide away valuable books in otherwise ordinary book collections. Mind you, it isn't easy to find them, though some people do have an extraordinary knack of ferreting them out.

This is Dunning's first book in the Cliff Janeway series. This is the book that got me hooked on book collecting, and John Dunning has graciously advised me along the way. John's not been well, and there may not be any more coming, but if you miss out on any of them, you're missing a great read.

A good read in Booked to Die
This is the first of John Dunning's whodunit series featuring Cliff Janeway as a cop turned bookman who uses his "street smarts" joined with his passion for books to solve murder mysteries involving the world of rare books. Dunning won me with his clever character development and Janeway's tough, earthy methodology. I've read each of the Janeway series and learned through Dunning's website (oldalgonquin.com) that another may be soon to come. I recommend them all. In or out of sequence.

On John Dunning...
This book drew me in with the first chapter, owing in good part to my own affinity for books. I was pleased to learn some of the ins and outs of the book business while following a great tale. I left the table with a yearning to start my own book business, or at the very least, become a book scout. What fun! Dunning writes with a sense of the big picture, while simultaneously courting the fine details. I recommend it to anyone , but especially to those who love the world of books.

A great summer read!
Two for one! The background to this mystery got me hooked on the book world AND Dunning. Now I'm anxious to read more, plus I'll take a closer look when I'm scanning those used books at yard sales.
