A tour de force by the 18 year old Francoise Sagan, written in a fortnight while she was at the Sorbonne - and which achieved a succes de scandale when published in the 1960s.
It is beautifully and sparely written and is a masterful analysis of the power of female jealousy and of its destructive effects . It is also a superb study of the burgeoning sexuality of a teenage girl , and her use of it as a way of achieving her ends.
