Scott Barnes was interviewed by Ted Koppel of Nightline and pronounced a "pathological liar". The book Stolen Valor by B. G. Burkett states that Mr. Barnes never worked for the DEA, the CIA, the FBI or the DIS. He never served in Viet Nam, and was in the Army for only 16 months. His only duty was as a security guard at Fort Louis, Washington, where he was released from service for " failure to meet acceptable standards for military service". The book includes a forged copy of his DD-214. He has been accused of exploiting the Vietnam POW-MIA issues for his personal gain. For instance. he claims to has swam a river from Thailand to Cambodia to observe POW's. There is no river between the two countries! This book is a complete hoax. He never did any of the things described in this book!
