This book was written at about the same time as the other great books on anthropology which have become the staple of all further research made possible thanks to Fraser, Usener, Boas and the like. Those people accumulated precious facts on primitive cultures that would soon start to disappear with the encroachment of civilisation. Boanegres is definitely one of them, even though most of the author's sources are second hand. Written at the peak of colonialism, the book makes all possible use of the advantages (and even disadvantages) that the system brought to the nascent school of analytical anthropology
