Seller's Description:
Very good in good dust jacket. Tight, square spine. Clean, unmarked interior. Gilt to spine remains bright. Only the gentlest of wear to the book. Mylar-protected jacket is price-clipped and has some moderate edge-wear. Jacket design by Hermann Strohbach. The Romanian-born Wolf was a poet and scholar whose decades in San Francisco spanned both the Beat era and the Summer of Love, when he founded the Haight-Ashbury Switchboard sponsored alternative education center, Happening House. The father of journalist Naomi Wolf, he also edited annotated versions of a variety of gothic horror novels (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Phantom of the Opera) and wrote studies of monsters fanciful and historical, as well as those in that mysterious limbo in between, such as Joan of Arc's notorious comrade-in-arms, whose life is recounted here. Features a jacket illustration depicting St. Michael battling the 'great red dragon' above Mont-Saint-Michel, an illuminated miniature from the Très Riches Heures, a lavish fifteenth-century book of hours created by the Limbourg brothers for Jean, Duc de Berry. 259 pp.
